July 31 :
Wow! I want to extend an enormous THANK YOU to everyone who is making this grow. I was at a show last night and went to introduce myself - but before I could finish she said "You're Rockstar Dave." I asked how she knew and she told me "that's what everyone calls you." That cracks me up! Frankly I'm surprised the name stuck because of it's terrible clichéd triteness. Regardless, I've been wildly busy this summer - and I can't help but think it has something to do with the local support. Things are just getting started.
March 10:
Most of February was spent thinking of a name for my new record label. It took nearly a month but I finally settled on Ripe Audio. Oh, what - I didn't mention that I was starting up a record label?? Well it's kind of a hybrid record label / bootleg service. Since I have so many recordings eating up space on my hard drive, I'm going to put them to use and make them available! So much info, just check out www.RipeAudio.com .. the site should be fully functional by mid-March. In the meantime, I've been doing sound in Buffalo regularly and plan on doing a few more recording projects before the summer hits.
January 11 :
Wow I've been so busy lately! I recorded 2 (!!) projects this week. One track for Joseph Glarner which should turn out to be a heavily-produced radio-friendly song, and the other was for Creatures of Habit who need a few tracks to sell at shows. So the Joseph Glarner tune will take a while to mix down, and the Creatures of Habit is basically finished. In the middle of all of this I work sound on the weekends too. Anyways, there's a sample of the Creatures of Habit on the examples page (example #5).
December 31:
Happy new now! Let's hope that 2008 is better than the last few years. My first purchase of the year will be: a Shure Beta58a mic. I'll be Shure to have a great year (get it?? thats a sound guy joke).
December 25:
Merry xmas! I hope your holidays are good, mine are great so far; I ate too much cheesecake. Last week I purchased a set of Yamaha studio monitors and upgraded my headphones to a set of the Sennheiser HD280pro cans. They offer way better sound isolation than my HD515s, making them great for live use. Big up to Sennheiser!
December 2:
Recording examples have been updated! Check out some of my recent recordings and a few of my favorite old recordings. All 5 of them were done as live multi-tracks, but one of them was done with vocals overdubbed after recording the instruments. See if you can find it on the examples page, and be sure to see how easily it can be done on the details page.
November 7:
More gear means an excuse to update my site! I've added a nice sturdy microphone case to the list. Also of note, the Open Mic nights at Walleye Willies have ended for a while, check back next spring because we might be doing it again. "Save a horse, ride a sound guy!"
October 22:
It's time for a few updates to the site. First, I should send a big THANK YOU to everyone who employs my professional services and keeps me doing what I love. Additionally, I've started running the Open Mic nights at Walleye Willies in Dunkirk; we run from 7-10pm and they offer cheap drinks all night long. And finally, I've been working at the Buckin Buffalo as their house sound guy.. catch me up there Friday and Saturday nights!
October 17:
It's my sister's birthday. Happy birthday, Candace!
August 9:
I have not updated this site in a long time. Hmm, let's see .. what's new? Oh yeah, SLYFEST is around the corner! I've been doing a lot of prep work for "3 Sweet Days", a great music festival right here in Fredonia NY. Check out On The Sly's site for all the info .. www.OnTheSly.org. I just bought some new gear today -- another compressor and a set of overhead condenser microphones. I've been doing sound around the state all summer and also making plans for this fall. Looks like I should be pretty busy; more to come on that...
May 26:
I bought some dedicated tom microphones for a drumkit. I've been meaning to get these for a while and finally made it happen. I have 14 microphones. See them all on the gear page!
May 15:
It's finally summer and I like it. Even though music in Fredonia slows down, summertime is the opportunity for me to hit the road and do a lot more mobile recording and sound reinforcement. I have my live studio setup right now and I will be recording an album with jazz-fusion band On The Sly. Additionally the summer festival season is gearing up, and I love working festivals! The sound is big, the price is small. Scope out the Sound section of the site.
April 30:
More, more more! More gear, more shows, and more specials! Additionally, I have cleared up LOTS of time to get busy on summer projects, so do not hesitate to contact me for any questions you have.
March 13:
There's so much music right now. What a paradise. I just finished updating several pages, including the shows page, the specials page, and my my list of gear. There are a few shows that I am personally very excited for .. On The Sly CD-release party and Hey You (a tribute to Pink Floyd). Both of those events are not to be missed.
February 4:
What a great start .. thank you so much to everyone for coming out and supporting live music. A few new show dates have been listed so be sure to look over those.
January 25:
Get ready to start shakin your booty, the semester's first weekend is about to hit and I'm all psyched about my new speakers. This weekend will sound fantastic.
January 16:
I bought a pair of kickass speakers to use for the upcoming EBC and Crazy Train shows. Expect nothing less than the best sound in town. 1600 watts of juice to thump your bump! For those who are curious, all my gear is listed on the gear page.
January 7:
New show dates are up on the shows page. Additionally, I will be buying a new PA setup next week. Stay tuned for more. In the mean time check out the new message board at www.RockstarDave.com/board.
January 1:
Happy new years to all you rockstars out there!!
December 22:
Ho Ho Ho, the holidays are around the corner. Be safe during this busy week! The site is about to get a content revamp. Information will be organized more intuitively and there will be lots of new information on Rentals, Live sound, and Booking.
December 18:
I just added my newest site to the design portfolio page. It is one of my first sites that does not pertain to music; www.ChristinasUniqueBoutique.com is the address. Additionally, I am in the middle of working on the next site which will look really nice. Stay tuned for that.
December 13:
For all you students, there's only one more weekend of music before the semester is over. Be sure to make smart choices. Matt Cross closes out EBC on Thursday night with BOMB drink specials.. $3 carbombs and jagerbombs. Additionally, you will NOT want to miss Pollock -- a rock / alternative / metal band which bears a strong resemblance to Tool -- at Crazy Train on Friday. If you want to ROCK, make sure to go!
December 2:
The Bad News: the new management at EBC suspended their music program. Bands were booked through December and were given no notice other than "tonight is the last night of music."
The Good News: I took a stroll down to Rockin Rhi's Crazy Train (formerly The Caboose) in Fredonia after talking with EBC. Crazy Train has an awesome setup for music. I talked with the owner and told him that I will do music there, he was just as excited as I am. If you have not been to Crazy Train for a show, GO!! It is unquestionably one of the best small music venues of the entire WNY area.
The Result: I can put the right band at the right venue. Larger acts can benefit from a larger stage down the road at Crazy Train (64 W.Main st, whereas EBC is 34 W.Main). Bands will be happier playing at a respectively suitable venue and fans will be happier for having more than one venue. So BUCK UP, this spring will be awesome!
November 29 :
I just finished a web design project, www.ChristinasUniqueBoutique.com, before taking on another web design project for Buffalo-based DJ service A Queen City Sound.
November 6:
New SPECIALS and REFERRAL promotions are finalized and posted. Web sites save $75, recordings have no charge for mixing, and if you refer someone to me I will give you 10%. These are some sweet deals for the holidays so take advantage of them!
October 24:
It I'm about to give this site some minor aesthetic changes -- see if you can catch them all. They'll be up next week.
October 17:
It's my sister's birthday! I've made the move to Buffalo and survived the first storm of the winter. What a weekend, but it was nice to see family and friends. Additinoally, I've used that time to make a new list of gear to get --including a Sonic Maximizer and an Audix gooseneck snare mic.
September 24:
Things have been super busy for me lately and I haven't had much free time at all (which is good). I spoiled myself and purchased a SWEET subwoofer for my sound setup. It's a Yorkville es700p and it has an active 2x10" speaker setup; each speaker runs at 350w. Pretty serious stuff. Additionally in mid-October I will be recording Vertigo, a U2-cover band out of Buffalo, for an autism benefit CD. I'm about to tackle another web site project as well. Oh, and I'm moving from Rochester to Buffalo this week...
September 9:
More gear .. this time it's a stage snake. My next purchase will be a big one and I'm debating between a sweet subwoofer and a sweet set of main speakers.
September 3 :
I am about to start a new web project for Buffalo-based band The Great Mistake. Check out their current site at www.TGMband.com.
August 31 :
The first shows of the season are this weekend. Origin Music on Thursday and the Brown-Ham Duo on Saturday, both are at EBC.
August 21 :
I just finished a new site for the booking venture I am tackling at Ellicottville Brew Company in Fredonia. Check out the site for dates, times, band links, and more... www.EBCshows.com.
August 11 :
A few new purchases and a lot of busy work have kept me from updating in a while, but now it is time for one. I have been booking shows for the Ellicottville Brew Company for the fall, working on two design projects, and several sound-recording projects! I will post the new sites as soon as they are ready, as well as a few recording examples. Thursday and Friday dates are open at EBC in Fredonia, email me to book a show.
July 2 :
I purchased a pair of new microphones the other day, they are Audix OM-2s and are very comparable to the Shure SM58. I was able to use them for a metal show the other night and they sound great ... it is very difficult to get feedback out of them (if, for some reason, you wanted feedback). Next on the list of things to purchase are some extra cables and two more mics.
June 18:
Regional band On The Sly needed a new website, so I made one for them. It was completed in less than a week and this was my second website for them. It is already up and running check out the new site at www.OnTheSly.org.
June 4:
I added a few new links in the Resources section to reflect some of the bands that I've been working with lately.
June 1:
I have been doing live sound for Oktober .. a U2 cover band based in Buffalo. Their next show is Saturday June 3 at the Clarion in Dunkirk, NY. One of these times I'll get them recorded too. www.Oktober-Live.com.
May 16 :
What a run, but the semester is over and now I'm an official college graduate! After a rough weekend, I've managed to recoup and I'm just about finished with my newest website project, which can be found at www.LydiaMarksMusic.com. I've got some free time coming up so .... anyone need a website or recording?
May 6 :
I added another example in the recording section -- it is the Brown-Ham Duo @ EBC from April 21, 2006. The song features a cowbell.

March 26:
