If you want to record a live event, I'll set up my mics along next to the sound guy's microphones (or, hire me to do sound as well!). If you want to record a band practice, I'll set up my mics in the practice room. As long as you're set up, I can record. This makes things super-convenient for your band and, more importantly, allows you to record in a place that is 100% comfortable. Where ever your band plays best is where we will record.
This method eliminates the need for tearing down your gear and paying $30 per hour (or more!) for studio time. It's as easy as playing in your favorite place, and it offers the benefits of near-studio quality without the studio price. If your group needs a less expensive way to get a great recording -- by the track or by the set -- this is what you need.
I have recorded in countless locations, including: basements, bedrooms, barns, and bars. Musical theatres and outdoor amphitheatres. Studios, music festivals, garages, practice rooms, dance clubs, attics, and more. The sky is the limit (no underwater recording though, sorry).
